Snapshot

Over the Freshers’ period, we have been running a photo project called Snapshot, inspired by the ‘Humans of New York’ blog. Snapshot is a fun and simple way to meet new students, capture a snapshot of who they are and give them an invitation to the Student Life society.

We took ordinary packs of playing cards and stuck a different question to each card. Students were invited to pick 3 cards at random and answer the question that most appealed to them to be featured on the Snapshot Facebook page.

It was a great way to meet new people and get into some really interesting conversations. Responses included:

  • Are heaven and hell real? "I think hell is real. There is nothing like heaven.”
  • What's the most important thing anyone's ever said to you? "'These things happen'. It's true. They happen and there's very little you can do. Best thing to do is make the most of them, no matter how good or bad.”
  • If you could ask God anything what would it be? ”Why am I not allowed to question the Bible? Maybe I am, but that's just what I've been taught.”
  • Which celebrity would you most like to be? "Beyoncé – she has it all!"
  • How do you know what it right and wrong? "By using your intuition, following your gut instinct. If there's a doubt, it's probably wrong.”
  • Is the death penalty ever an appropriate punishment? "No, two wrongs don't make a right.”
  • What scares you? "Not being good enough"
  • If you could have one super hero power, what would it be and why? "Flying because you can fly around the world very cheaply and travel the whole time."

Visit the Facebook page to see more.

If you’d like to make your own Snapshot pack, here’s a free set of questions that you can print onto labels and stick to a pack of cards. Have fun!
